A very common misconception is that the force of tension is a force pair. While we do say that the magnitude of the force a rope applies to the two objets it is connected to is the same, the two forces are not force pairs. They could indeed be in different directions if redirected by a pulley.

Another common misconceptions is that if two objects are coupled togeather then they share the magnitude of their kinamatic variables. However, consider a pully system. We know that in certian systems that involve pulleys if one object moves 1m then the other will move half, or a third, of a meter. Be careful when identifying constraints of a system and consider how the two connected objects move relative to each other.
